About Our Program

Our log grading training program is meticulously crafted to provide you with a deep understanding of log grading techniques and standards. Our objective is to empower participants with the skills necessary to assess and grade logs accurately, ensuring quality and compliance in the forestry industry. The program offers numerous benefits, including career advancement opportunities, industry-recognized certification, and a comprehensive curriculum that covers both theoretical and practical aspects of log grading.

This workshop is based on the “Guidelines for the Scaling and Grading of Hardwood Logs”, a collaborative program of the WVU Appalachian Hardwood Center and the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers, Inc. The morning session will focus on reviewing/discussing the Guidelines in a classroom setting followed by hands-on grading and scaling during the afternoon session. Please note, the workshop is NOT based on the US Forest Service’s log grading system. This system is patterned after the current industry practice of grading and scaling hardwood logs based on diameter and clear faces. 6.5 SAF Continuing Education Credits (CFE’s) will be available.
